Abstract
This study was carried how much prevalent Hepatititis C virus(HCV) and hepatitis B virus(HBV0 infection among adults in Pusan. Study subjects(1,806) were examinee to take a multiphasic health examination at a University hospital from July 1992 to
June
1994. Serums were collected for test of anti-HCV, HBsAg and HBsAb, the level of SGOT, SGPT, r-CT, and stool examination was tested for clonorchiasis. All of the subjects were interviewed with the questionnaire of blood transfusion history, past
history
and familial history of hepatitis.
The overall prevalence rate of anti-HCV was 2.95%(95% CI: 1.58~4.28), especially high in elderly group, and overall prevalence: of HBsAg was 7.4%(95% CI 7.3~8.5). The positive rate of anti-HCV was not significantly different between positive
group
of
HBsAg and negative group of HBsAg. The positive rate of anti-HCV in normal group that had values within normal range of SGOT, SGPT, r-GT and normal findings of abdominal ultrasonogram, was 1.55%(95% CI: 0.46~2.64). The truncated age adjusted
positive
rate of anti-HCV for the Pusan population was 3.03%(95% CI: 2.99~3.07).
Therefore the positive rates of anti-HCV and HBsAg for adults in Pusan area were relatively high, they should be considered to implement adquate control of hepatitis B and C virus infection and reinforcement of health education.
